QuestionHello
I'm a 37 year old mother of three, I recently noticed a lump/bump at the base of my nipple. I have no nipple discharge. I went to my local free clinic, which sent me to my local Health Department, both of them suggest I go get a mammogram. I've read that this kind of lump usually does not show up on a mammogram. I do not have any health insurance and can not afford to pay for alot of tests.
I lost my sister to breast cancer over the summer. She was 40 years old. Her cancer was very aggressive, she died within 4 yrs of being diagnosed. I also have an Aunt with breast cancer.
What are any other signs I might need to be looking for? My arm pit is also sore. No weight loss though and isn't weight loss a sign of cancer?
AnswerDear Jennifer, Weight loss IS a sign of cancer, but only after it has spread to other areas of the body in most cases....
You have a DEEP family history of breast cancer and with your sister having breast cancer you are a HIGH RISK of getting it yourself.... THe treatments for breast cancer are going to be more than a simple office vistit to your OB/GYN and having an ultrasound done OR a Mammogram.... The fact that your arm pit is sore along with the lump in the breast are possible signs of cancer too....
GET TO YOUR OB/GYN, NOW!
thank you, karen
