QuestionI am a regular blood donor and just received a letter from the blood bank saying that my ANTI D test came back showing I know have these antigens in my blood.
I miscarried 5 weeks into my pregnancy on December 12th and received the RhoGam shot on December 17th. I thought the RhoGam shot was supposed to stop my bodies reaction in producing these antigens.
I have two questions:
Did the RhoGam shot not work because I didn't receive it in the 72 hour window from when my miscarriage started?
Is it possible that the blood bank test picked up on the RhoGam shot? I have heard that you can test positive for Anti D for up to 12 weeks after receiving a RhoGam shot. When I donated blood it was exactly 8 weeks past my miscarriage.
Thank you for your time,
Sarah
AnswerHi Sarah. Since you didn't get the Rhogam short within 72 hours of your miscarriage, there is a slight chance that the Rhogam shot didn't work. Do you know the blood type of the baby's father? If he is Rh negative, then I wouldn't worry.
When researching to help in answering your question, I found this link and found it to be especially helpful. Why don't you check it out?
