Understanding Period Changes When Starting Birth Control Pills

Question
I went to the doctor a few months ago and got on the pill. I haven't gotten my period since the month before I went to the doctor, so I haven't started the pills yet. I am not pregnant, my period has always been weird and irregular. If I start taking the pill, will it make my period regular?

Answer
the pill doesn't make your period regular.  The periods you would get (if you got them) would not be normal periods since the pill makes your body think it is pregnant.  If you are concerned about having regular cycles you should find a doctor who will help you find the underlying cause of your irregularity and not just put you on the pill.  that is not good doctoring.  Regular periods are a sign of good health and fertility (usually) and irregular periods may indicate an underlying problem that you should deal with if you are interested in getting pregnant in the future.
