QuestionI have been using a diaphragm for several years. The other night it felt like it slipped during sex, but when i checked, it was in place, so i figured it was just a sensation that was wrong. it really did feel secure when i checked it.
then, today, it did slip when i went to the bathroom about 1 hour after sex. i probably did the wrong thing. it felt uncomfortable when i pushed it back in, so i took it out and put more spermicide in and put it back in.
should i go to the doctor for a morning after pill now?
also, i noticed, when i took it out that i had some blood mid-cycle. not sure what that means either. could that be a sign of a previous pregnancy?
i am 42. never been pregnant. i have a monogomous relationship, but not financially the right situation for a baby.
it feels unlikely that i am pregnant, given my age, etc., but a bit nervous here.
thanks.
AnswerThe morning after pill must be used "the morning after" and it is an abortion. Other than those two statements, I have nothing else to offer you for your problem. Sex makes babies.
Without knowing where in your cycle you were last night, I can't tell you whether or not you are at risk for pregnancy. If you are aware that you were ovulating, then there is more to worry about than not. No birth control method is 100%.
So if you've successfully used a diaghram for years and never gotten pregnant and you are 42 years old, you may not be very fertile or fertile at all, or just pretty lucky. But things do change. Some women are infertile until they turn 40 and some are fertile until they turn 40 and then are infertile. It's something no one knows until pregnancy either happens when you want it to or doesn't happen because you want it to.
