Family Planning Concerns: Understanding Birth Control & Condom Use

Question
I'll look in to that Family Planning thing.  I'm just not ready to get off birth control, I'm thinking what happens if I get pregnant...it's something I'm not ready for.  Me and my boyfriend have been using condoms 100% of the way through as a second method of contraception i ncase the pill fails.  I don't know if condoms would be something to rely on, what do you think?  I actually like  using a condom but there's always that thought of what if the condoms breaks and leaks.  *Sigh*  And also say I do get off the pill, would i lose most of the pounds i've gained?  I've heard it's just water retention and it gradually goes back after I've gotten off of it.

I had a question about the pill.  I've been on Orth Tricylen for about 2 years now and recently switched to Lo 2 months ago because I was recieving the generic form of Ortho Tricylen and it made my face very oily.  The Lo is doing the same thing and I think I've gained a little more weight while being on the Lo.  Should I switch to a different brand.  For the past 2.5 years I've gained about 20 pounds while on the pills.  I also notice that you posted in the "instructions"  The pill is a dangerous steroid that has serious side effects. Natural Family Planning is more effective and has absolutely no risks.   Can you explain that?  Thanks, I'd appreciate it.

Weight gain and oily skin are visible side effects from taking the pill.  There are more serious ones occuring that can damage your overall health and fertility.  You should read the package insert.  It will scare you to death!  And not all those things will happen to you, but some of them probably will - and you really can't predict which ones.  Just as you can't predict whether or not you will get pregnant, either on the pill or after you stop taking it.

NFP is safe and natural and doesn't interfer with your natural functioning body.  You learn how your body works and work with it, not against it. The pill suppresses and damages your natural functions, sometimes they cannot be restored to health.

You have to be committed to health, just as in anything about your body, you have to be proactive, think about it and do the right thing - not just the easy thing.  If you want more information, you can check out the website:  ccli.org or write me back.  I think you are on the right track.  Switching to a different brand won't improve your situation.

Answer
The weight gain can be just water weight but more than likely it is a physiological change in your metabolism and hormone balance that may not go away.  I'm serious when I tell you that the side effects from the pill are nothing to pooh pooh.  You could get pregnant no matter what you do but the condom plus pill does give you more protection.

I think you should be considering your mental state if you are "always" worrying about getting pregnant.  I don't really think you can be enjoying life, your relationship, your future with that kind of anxiety always over your head.  I believe that is why the surveys say that unmarried sex is not as satisfying and that women in cohabiting relationships are not as happy as married women.
