Prevera: Side Effects, Risks & Concerns About Amenorrhea
QuestionI stopped getting my period when i was 19 and was told that my fsh and lh levels were too low so i was not able to menstruate. My doctor prescribed premerin and prevera to help me get my period and it got my period back. He told me i don't have to take it every month so i have not taken the pills for about a year. I don't like taking hormone pills if it is not necessary. My question is, do these pills have side effects and is it dangerous not to get my period every month? I also would like to know if you think there is an alternative way to get my period back without taking those pills. I was told that acupuncture or herbs may do the trick but i have not been successful yet in finding a solution. Thanks for your help
AnswerHi Chana,
The side effects of hormone pills are nausea, headaches, mood changes, acne, weight loss or gain, spotting. Most of these side effects will go away after 3-4 months. It's not dangerous to not have a period each month. Acupuncture may help as it helps the blood flow throughout your body. Also try eating a good healthy diet and exercising.
