Unexpected Period While on Birth Control Pills: What to Do?

i took my fourth green pill today and i started my period..it was not due untill friday..do i finish up the last three green pills or do i throw them out and start the white ones? i was told you take the white ones during your period..any help is greatly appreciated

You should continue to take the pills as you normally would, which means finishing the last green pills before taking the white ones. You may be experiencing  breakthrough bleeding and your period can still arrive as normal on Friday. This is a common side effect of the pill, especially during the first 3 months or if a pill was missed or late. However, if it is your period and this occurs again next month, you may want to give your doctor a call to let him/her know.
