QuestionI have been using Ortho-Tricyclin Lo for about 4 years now, and am very good at taking it the same time every day. Just this month, I finished the first 2 weeks of the pack and beginning the 3rd week (the week right before my period is to begin) I got my period--it came a whole week early. I am still taking the 3rd week pills, but next week should I take the period pills b/c that is when I should have gotten my period, or should I begin a whole new pack? I believe each week is a different hormone level in ortho-tri lo, just an FYI. I just don't know if I should begin a new pack or keep on my regular schedule and take the period pills next week even though I won't have my period. Pls help. thank you for your time.
Best,
Julie
AnswerHi Julie,
Yes, Ortho TriCyclen Lo is a tri-phase pill.
I'm not sure what would cause the change, and you can do one of two things.
You can continute as normal, but you won't be as protected next month. It may help you're cycle get back on track, but theres a possibility it will come early again that month.
The other option would be to start your next pack the first 24 hours of your period. This should offer you protection for the next month, but your cycle may still be off a little. And if it's been a few days since your period began, that opton won't work.
I think the best thing you can do is call your Dr., and ask him what he recommends. Some Dr.'s will even suggest you not take the pill for a month, and then start again when your period starts. He/She will have the best info for you as to what offers your protection and gets you back on track.
Wish I could have been more help, but sometimes a Dr. still knows best!
Good Luck to you and Thanks,
Drea Jean
