Stopping Birth Control Pills After Tubal Ligation: What You Need to Know

Question
I had a baby in February and had my tubes tied then.  I decided to take the pill just to control my periods as they have become much much heavier since having my tubes tied.  I have experienced a lot of spotting which in my opinion is worse than the three days a month of heavy bleeding.  I just took a three day break from the pill and started taking it again this last Sunday 1/7/2007.  I now have decided that I just don't want to take it anymore.  Can I stop now?  Will I bleed heavily again like I did over the weekend break even though I only took it for 4 days?

Answer
Hi Jan,
Thanks for your question. Just remember I'm not a medical doctor so please check with your physician. I applaud you on your decision to quit the pill. But what are you going to do, just hope that the tube tying worked? If you stop now, I'm not sure if you would bleed but it's possible. You might just have to go through that in order to get off. Please email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com and let me know what happens.
Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl
