Stopping Lutera: Expected Side Effects & Menstruation

Dr. Kambic,

 I began taking Lutera and am 14 days into the  pack.  Clearly, this particular
pill is not right for me as I have never felt worse.  My question is this:  if I
stop taking as of today and do not take the pill tomorrow or thereafter, what
side effects am I expected to experience?  Will I get a period in the coming
days?
NB- I began the pill because I have not menstruated in some time.  I am not
sexually active so pregnancy is not an issue with my discontinuation of the
pill.

I assume you went to a healthcare provider and told them you were not having periods. They put you on the pill so that you might start cycling and having periods. You may be feeling poorly because your body is undergoing the cyclic changes that accompany ovulation and menstruation. I don't know. You should not have any side effects if you stop now. But if you want to cycle, you probably need a push and that is what the doctor is trying to do.

As always, I suggest talking with the provider that prescribed the pill as soon as possible.
