Managing Birth Control Changes: Weaning Off Yasmin & Finding Alternatives

Question
Right now, I'm taking Yasmin. I've been on it since March '06. I was fine until the 7th month when I started to have really bad cramps for 2 days and it  no longer controlled the amount of bleeding. So for the past 2 months, I've skipped the "period pills", until I can set up an appt with my doctor. I of course, am now spotting, but I knew that was going to happen. How do I wean myself off the Yasmin, so I can get started with another brand?

Answer
Hello,
Did you ever email me? I would love to hear from you again.

Hi Pam,
I'm not a medical doctor so I advise you to check with your personal physician. I don't personally recommend the birth control pill because of the hormones being put into your body. I only recommend non-hormonal methods such as condoms, Natural Family Planning and of course, abstinence.
How soon will you be able to get to your doctor? I would suggest going off the pill completely but of course, that is just my opinion. Spotting is a side effect. Can I help you further? If so, please email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com
