Switching Birth Control: Understanding Tri-Sprintec to Kariva & Potential Side Effects

Question
Hello. I have been on Tri-Sprintec birth control for about 6 years now. I have been having some irregularity issues lately and my doctor switched me Kariva. I am quite nervous about the change as I have read on the internet some unsettling things about Kariva such as weight gain, hair loss, lowered libido (mine is already very low), and acne. What are the differences between the two birth controls and should I forget trying Kariva?

Answer
Hi Laura,

Have you decided what to do about this switch yet? I know you want to trust your doctor but sometimes you have to go with your gut feeling about something. Now that we have the information on the internet, you can make your own decisions about health issues instead of always relying on your doctor.

Personally, I don't recommend any kind of hormonal birth control method because of side effects such as you mentioned. Are you saying that you didn't experience any or many problems on Tri-sprintec until recently? Please email me at CHERYL51@aol.com and put ALLEXPERTS in your subject line. Hope to hear from you soon.
