QuestionMy daughter is 20 years old. She has a 20 month old and a 9 month old. 1 month after her youngest was born, she had the Merina IUD inserted as their method of birth control. On Friday she took 3 home pregnancy tests. Positive. Went to her OB-GYN and their urine test was positive. We are waiting for the results from the blood tests, hope to have them by Monday. She also had an internal sonogram. The IUD seems to be in place. There were two "small" cysts on one ovary. She had her period last week, it stopped for 3 or 4 days, then started again. She's feeling crampy and emotional and miserable. She is terrified of being pregnant again, but does not believe in abortion and can't imagine giving up a child. So if this is indeed a pregnancy, we will deal with it and love the baby like the others. I am just very concerned with all the symptoms and the risks if she IS pregnant and needs to have the IUD removed.
Have you heard anything about people who have gotten pregnant with the Merina IUD? What ARE the risks associated with leaving it in place vs. removing it in the case of pregnancy? We are just scared and don't seem to be getting answers.. and as you know.. the waiting is the hardest part.
Is there any way that there could be a false positive on all those tests??? What could cause that???
Look forward to hearing from you...
Sincerely,
Dawn Harvey
