Late Period: Could It Be Pregnancy? Symptoms & What to Do

Question
My girlfriend and I had intercourse on November 5th. Her last period was October 21st. We took care to make sure we used proper birth control. We used a condom and withdrawl. I made sure no semen spilled inside, but she is between 3-7 days late she's not sure when she is due to have it. She says it feels likes it going to come but it hasn't yet. She's 18 and I'm 19 . She recently applied to college and says she was so nervous and stressed out about it that it made her sick. Also she's begun to exercise again. Could this be why she is so late? Should we take a test? Were we careful enough?

Answer
If your girlfriend's perid started on October 21, she would have ovulated on November 3 and could have conceived if she had sex on November 2,3,4, or 5. She was due for her next period on November 17 and is now 8 days late for her period. The "withdrawal" method is the worse type of birth control method. There are around 300,000 sperm at the tip of the penis prior to ejaculation. If you try to withdraw the penis prior to ejaculation, these sperm can be "milked" out of the penis as you withdraw and, if it is on one of the days I mentioned above, she can conceive. It would be a good idea to take a pregnancy test at this time. If it is negative, she is definitely not pregnant. If it is positive, she is pregnant.
