Understanding Your Second Month on Lutera: Timing, Periods, and Common Questions

Question
Hi Mrs. Cheryl,

My name is rachel. I am a 21 year old college student, and this is my second month on Lutera birth control pills. During my first month, I got my period about a day or two after my regular, active white pills were done. Now, during my second month, I started my second pill pack on the first sunday of my period. Since I started my first pill pack on a Wednesday, and I got my period on a friday, I began to take my new pack that Sunday. I waited seven days before having any type of intercourse. My question to you is, now I am supposed to have one more day of active pills, and I got what seems to be like my period yesterday (thursday), and it was very light, almost a dark red/brown color. I have continued to take my active pills, however I am still currently lightly bleeding. I am wondering if this is normal? Or if there is a possibility I could be pregnant? Also, since I technically have active pills up until tomorrow, Saturday, when do I start my next pill pack so that I am completely protected once my period is over, rather than waiting seven days?

Thank You for your time and I appreciate your advice and guidance. Thank You

Answer
Rachel,

I'm very sorry but I was just able now to get to your question. What has happened since you posted that question to me?

There should be instructions in the birth control pill box as to how to take the pills. Also, your doctor should have given you precise directions.

I don't recommend hormonal birth control methods because of changes to your natural body cycle. There are also sometimes side effects for some women that are concerning. Please reconsider birth control at all and at least hormonal methods. Please email me at CHERYL51@aol.com so we can discuss this further. Hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl
