Understanding Irregular Periods & Birth Control Use

Question
OOOk. so I'm sexually active with my boyfriend, on birth control (   ) and I do not use condoms..I know I've heard a million times that birth control isn't 100% but I'm still going to continue not using condoms. My point(s)being: First of all, I have been on bc for about 2 years now, and for about half a year now, I've been stacking my pills. This has resulted in random periods that occur within the time of my birth control, and some of my periods have even lasted to as long as three weeks. I've finally decided to stop stacking because for some reason my mother insists on it and doesn't get the point of it. To my actual, ACTUAL point: 2 days ago, i finished my birth control. I literally cannot rememeber if i got my period the day RIGHT after it stops (when I am taking the sugar pills) or if it takes a few days. Well..it's been a few days and I'm still patiently waiting. I've had scares like this before and this might even be just a fluke! But I was googling and found this site which seemed very helpful. I hope you can answer my question and understood it correctly.

Answer
Dear Carlee,

I'm not sure what you mean by stacking but I would guess that it is where you keep taking pills and don't allow yourself to have a period?

I don't know exactly why or what your mother is telling you about the pills. But I would advise you not to take the birth control pills or any kind of hormonal birth control method. I have done much research and there are side effects and risks from hormonal birth control methods.

I really can't tell you if you are pregnant but I would suspect that maybe your period is not coming because of the hormones in your body and no regular cycle. We, as women, were made to have a natural cycle and when you are changing that normal cycle, then problems can happen with our bodies.
