Safe Sex After Starting Birth Control: How Soon Can You Have Intercourse?
QuestionHi, I have been on birth control (Aviane) for the past 3 weeks. I have just recently started my 3rd week. I was wondering how long do I have to wait before I can have my fiance ejaculate in me? We are both very young and we are not by any means ready to have kids. Some doctors have told me that I should wait about a month of being on the pill regularly before doing so and my pharmacist told me that I needed to wait 2 months after. I am pretty good with my pill. I take it at 12:30 PM almost every day, I have had 2-3 days that I have taken it early and a little bit later than that time? Is that wrong? I am just wanting to make sure that I will not get pregnant and I am wondering when the best time line for me to have my fiance ejaculate inside would be? I am rather confused, thank you :)
AnswerWith combined type birth control pills like Aviane, if you start taking it during the first few dauys of a period, you're protected immediately. If you start taking it at any other time, you're protected after taking it for 7 days. So you're protected now and for as long as you're taking the pill, including the 7 days when you're taking the placebo pills.
