Emergency Contraception: Understanding the Morning-After Pill & Potential Side Effects

Question
I'm 18. My last period ended on April 22nd. A week later on the 29th, at about 11pm at night, my boyfriend and I had sex. We were trying new condoms and it split. We decided we'd get the MAP the next day. The next day, about 13 hours later, we had sex again and towards the end of sex, the condom split completely and he ejaculated inside of me. He drove me to the nearest pharmacy and about 15 minutes later, I took the morning after pill.

About 5 days later, I had a browny, bloody discharge which lasted for about 3 days.

My period is now three weeks late. I took two pregnancy tests at about 3 and a half weeks and I know it isn't that accurate, but they were both negative. I also took two more five days ago, which were both negative.

I will keep testing, but is it at all possible the MAP could have caused me to miss my period this month?

Answer
Hi Charlotte,
It's common that the morning after pill can cause the next period to be late or early.  As long as a pregnancy test (first morning urine) is negative 3 weeks after sex, you know you're not pregnant.  Stress can also cause a period to be late.  You probably don't need to test anymore (unless you have had sex since then) and can just wait until your period comes.  It generally will, sooner or later.  By the way, I hope you've gotten some better condoms.
