Natural Birth Control Methods: A Comprehensive Guide for Affordable Options
QuestionI was wondering if you could help me out because all the information i'm finding is biased one way or the other. My boyfriend and I want to use a defferent birth control method besides condoms. I don't have health insurance so I can't really afford the doctor visit and prescription for the pill, patch, iud, etc. The other options I've found are spermicide, female condom, pull-out method, and tracking my fertility days. I'm hesitant on the female condom because I can't even put a tampon in and it just seems like the same as a condom. Statistics on everything aren't showing too good for the spermicide but sites keep saying way different statistics for pulling out and tracking. I was wondering how effective using a spermicide, tracking, and pulling out would be if I did all of them and if there are any other options. Thankyou very much for your time.
AnswerMost methods are pretty effective if they are done well all the time. When 2 methods are combined, that increases the effectiveness more. The problem is that most couples don't use them well all the time, which results in pregnancies. I would guess that using a spermicide, tracking, and pulling out would have 1-2% pregnancy rate (1-2 pregnancies/100 couples/year) if done well, but for the average couple there would probably be a 5-10% pregnancy rate. I don't know of any study where this combination has actually been tested. I think you've covered the options pretty well.
