QuestionQUESTION: My LMP was December 5 2010, I usually get my period between 31-37 days. I thought i was going to have my normal period at around the 11th that's why my partner and I didn't bother much about protection when we had sex early january and the last time was january 8. However, january 12 onwards passed and my period did not come. so I began to worry. I just learned that it is ovulation that could possibly be delayed due to stress and the period just follows after aabout 14 days... So i tried to recompute my regular cycle and I found out that at around the time of my regular ovulation (late decempber supposedly) I was under a lot of stress so I guess my ovulation got delayed. I was so worried that I started pregnancy testing on the 18th, 19th, and 20th, but they were all clearly negative (I used first morning urine and used two different brands). When I tried to recall events and read on ovulation, i found out that mood swings could hapen during ovulation and a little cramps too (symptoms i thought were because of my coming period) I recall having an extreme mood swing on the 10th without any reason and that's probably because of the ovulation. so when I recomputed forward, I estimated that if I really ovulated at around the 10th or 11th, the sperm probably survived long enough to fertilize the released egg and it would probably be implanted afte 7-14 days. So I decided to wait until January 26th perhaps to see if I would either get my period or a positive pregnancy test. On friday Jan 21st I felt some very mild cramps on my lower abdomen and decided to test again on saturday morning, Jan 22nd. I saw a faint positive line! the next morning I tested again and the line was becoming clearer. Abortion in our country is illegal so I began searching the net for online sellers of mifepristone and misoprostol in the forums. I bought one set, on monday Jan24th (1 mifepristone 200 mg tab and 10 200mcg tabs of cytotec) (I want to hurry because I know that studies only find them effective until 7-9 weeks of pregnancy and based on my LMP, I was already 7 weeks and so incase they were fake, I could buy from somebody else before the 9 weeks is over) They were so expensive! I took the mifepristone tab at around 4 pm on Jan 24th. I did not feel anything. Next day, January 25, I inserted 4 tabs of cytotec in my vagina at 10 pm. There were almost no contractions... I was so worried because many people said they had contractions just a few minutes later... I waited but no cramping and bleeding. I just felt a little dizzy so I took just one more tablet sublingualy at 11 pm and fell asleep. I woke up at 2 am expecting bleeding but there weren't even any cramps. When I woke up at 5 am on January 26th, there was a bit of pink blood and remnants of the tablets I inserted the night before on my napkin. I went to my bf's house to retry administering again the tablets. while travelling, I felt so weak, a bit bloated, cramping like a normal period and a bit nauseous and i thought that I was already flowing heavily. to my surprise when I reached his house, My pad was only filled with pink blood. A lot lighter in color than my normal period. I took the next 3 cytotec tabs sublingually at 10 am and lied down because again I was feeling weak. I woke up at around 2 pm because i was feeling chilly. I believe that that is the side effect aside from the previous nausea (I thought it may also be due to the pregnancy) so the tablets I bought are probably not fake. I was so disappointed because I was not bleeding and cramping painfully like what people say they experienced so I took the 2 remaining tabs of cytotec agains ublingualy at around 3 pm. Still not much difference. I just noticed that when I went to the bathroom, my pad was again filled with pink blood and there was just one small clot there... blackish, reddish with sticky, mucous-like thing attached. Just around the size of the tip of the smallest finger.
i tried to contact another cytotec dealer and she said that I'm just probably 3 weeks pregnant and the cytotec will not work. She told me to wait 2 more weeks and see if i would like to buy from her. she said that the mifepristone was probably fake and my admin of misoprostol was wrong (which i doubt, I even think i overdid it).
Now my dilemmas are:
1. how many weeks pregnant am I really at the time i took the meds and the time I had a positive result (Im guessing it would only turn positve after 7-14 days so at most that's supposedly 4 weeks if i search the internet right?)... basing it on my lmp is inaccurate because i think my ovulation was late. I know I just have to add 2 weeks to that actual week of pregnancy because that is what people usually put on the net.
2. Do you think the meds are fake?
3. Do you think my medical abortion was complete already? what should I do next? I feel less bloated than yesterday... and I dont feel any cramps anymore. Yesterday, there was no bleeding at all.
I am so confused, please enlighten me. If i am still pregnant, please tell me asap when and what i should take next. I know time is running out. My family doesn't know, only my bf does. This experience made me learn many things. I just want to finish this now and move on and be a better wiser person from now on. I believe our whole country is totally against abortion but there are alot going on, and women are not getting the correct and safe information, so please help me with my case. I have no one else to ask. Thank you.
ANSWER: Hi :)
1. It's hard to know how many weeks you were-it's incredibly early, and why at this point a doctor would use a vaginal ultrasound to try and detect the pregnancy, because it's that tiny. At the very most you'd be around 4 weeks-you most likely caught it earlier than most.
2. I can't say-but these medications aren't 100%, and even when they do work, given how early your pregnancy is, it's not surprising you would bleed so little.
3. It very well could be complete, but we have no way of knowing. If you can, see a doctor/medical professional who can check and see if the pregnancy is still there or not. You don't have to even mention the medications you took-they induce a miscarriage (the medical term for which is 'spontaneous abortion') and getting checked out after a miscarriage is pretty run of the mill, and a good safety measure. If anything, you'll be able to find out the gestational age.

QUESTION: Hi, a day after posting my previous question I started to bleed slightly lighter than my normal period and it continued for 2 weeks. I just want to ask what I should do now... My bleeding stopped after 2 weeks and after 3 weeks from taking the medicines I tested using HPT again. It was still positive and had darker positive bands. I went to have a transvaginal ultrasound and the doctor said that I am pregnant, 5 weeks 1 day based on the size of my gestational sac, but there is no visible embryo or fetal pole. What should i do next? Should I order a new set of drugs or go for a D&C, I'm practically scared to have scarring etc... And it's really expensive. My previous online seller told me i should take the medications again (mifepristone + misoprostol set), but according to another seller I should use only misoprostol... What should I do? Thank you...
AnswerIf the D&C is done legally, the risk of scarring or any complication is incredibly low. It's a commonly performed procedure for incomplete miscarriages.
The decision is up to you-you have to weigh the risks and benefits. The new set of medications may not work, and you'll need the D&C anyway. Or maybe they will work. The mifepristone+misopristol combo would be the ideal choice, as it is more effective than misopristol alone.
