QuestionHello,
I would really appreciate a response asap since I am getting worried and since I have severe anxiety it takes a lot for me to go to the doctor, unless really need be.
I had an abortion about 8 weeks ago. September 10th, 09. I bled normally after wards. I hadnt taken any medication or I.V during, before or after the procedure.
A couple weeks after wards I bled more heavily and then it stopped. I was blood free for a little while, and just recently I started to bleed. Its really dark blood, so Im assuming its old.
Usually when I go to the washroom it comes out more, or when I start to get intimate.
I had my follow up app 2 weeks after and the doctor said everything was fine.
I'm not sure if this is normal, or if this is something i should be concerned about or how much longer I should have this brown "spotting" for.
Its been almost three weeks of me with this brown "spotting" and IM getting worried on top of that, I cannot be intimate.
Please let me know asap
and I thank you SOOO MUCh for your time, and kind appreciation for any response. It means so much.
Thank you
Lexas
AnswerDear Lexas,
The spotting you are describing is common and usually normal. Spotting wtih red or brown blood for several months after an abortion is not of concern. The reason you get more spotting after having sex, is that intercourse stimulates the uterus to contract, so it will stimulate the uterus to expel blood that remains in the uterine cavity. Sex and exercise can be a good thing as it helps the uterus to come back to its normal cycle, and is nothing to worry about. My only concern would be if you started to get significant cramping or a foul odor with the brown discharge. That might indicate that there is remaining tissue in the uterus that should be evaluated.
There is more information about bleeding after abortion on my website: http://www.earlyabortionoptions.com
I hope this is helpful,
