Post-Medical Abortion & IUD: Expected Period & Concerns
QuestionSO I had a medical abortion about 5 weeks ago, and 2 weeks after having the procedure I got a IUD. I have continually spotted the whole 5 weeks. I went back in when I got my IUD and had an ultrasound to make sure that it worked. They said it had but I still tested positive on a pregnancy test. My question is, How long after a medical abortion and receiving the IUD should I get my first period? I spot with a dark color blood, then it stops and then the next day it will start again. I have not had sex for a few months so I know I am not pregnant again, but I was just wondering if it is normal to not have my period yet.
AnswerHello,
It's not uncommon to not have a period for a while after an abortion. Also, the IUD may be interfering in your natural cycle. Also, it's not unusual to have a positive pregnancy test. I recommend that you talk to your doctor about the spotting and bleeding. Did you have a post abortion checkup? Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
