Ectopic Pregnancy & Multiple Gestation: Understanding Risks & Possibilities

Question
If you are diagnosed with a ectopic pregnancy and pregnant with two babies is it possible for one to be in the Fallopian tube, and the other to be in the uterine. the tube has to be cut but will the second baby be okay?? Or have to loose it's also?

Answer
Hello, Andrea,

I would say that it is theoretically possible for you to have one baby in the Fallopian tube and one in the uterus. It would happen, for example, if you had fraternal twins, and one came from one Fallopian tube, and the other from the other Fallopian tube. If you have one in the uterus, it is possible that the one in the uterus will be OK. It is also possible that the one in the uterus won't be affected by the operation for the one in the Fallopian tube. Have you any information to this effect? This is very interesting, and I hope that it is true and you can have it taken care of, and save the one in the uterus. Please do let me know what happens, and please know that I am in your corner and I will pray for you.

I had a peculiar pregnancy of my own, so I don't discount any possibilities! In my case, I was pregnant with one baby, and at four months, I became pregnant with a second. The first didn't make it, and the second one is now 30 years old and very healthy. When he was born, there was no sign of the first one, but we have medical evidence it was so, and I was pregnant for a year.

Take care!
