Questionok in August 2007 I had made the choice to get an abortion i was about 11 weeks pregnant since then i have been bleeding irregular like 2 months maybe after i spotted brown to regular for amonth straight i have been to clinics, doctors, ultrasounds have been done everyone just wants me on birth control and the found nothing except a cyst the size of my thumb nail...can you please give me something to work with like WHY AM I BLEEDING?
AnswerAshley,
The only person who can truly answer that question is a doctor. Nobody will be able to tell you over the internet, not even a doctor. Since you have been to doctors without satisfaction, you will need to find a decent one. There are a couple of places you can look for a recommendation. The first is La Leche League. The second is a crisis pregnancy agency. Don't let any hype you have heard about crisis pregnancy agencies scare you off. The vast majority are professional and caring. They will know who the doctors are who won't just blow you off.
I can, however, say that it sounds like you were probably injured. There are a couple of ways that injury can occur that would lead to this kind of continual bleeding and spotting. One is if the abortionist punctured the surface of your uterus with the device he was using. He's got a sharp knife and he's operating blind on very soft tissue. Even if he used an ultrasound, that doesn't really help all that much. The other possibility is that your cervix was damaged. This kind of damage is almost inevitable anyway. When they force open the cervix, this causes microtears. The other danger from this is that in a future pregnancy, in the second trimester, your cervix would be unlikely to be able to hold the weight, and you could be vulnerable to miscarriage or extreme prematurity. This is why it is important to tell your doctor at the time that you had an abortion. And 11 weeks is a more serious abortion than an earlier one as far as potential damage is concerned.
Brown blood is old blood. The fact you're getting brown blood may mean that the injury that is causing the bleeding is from the uterus rather than the cervix. But the only way you can know for sure is to find a competent and ethical doctor who cares enough to take you seriously. Certainly putting you on birth control is no answer, and if you don't want to be on birth control, it's better to stay away from it. It may simply mask the real problem, anyway.
One other possibility is that you still have tissue left in your body. You say they found a small cyst. You need to know for sure that's what it is. It would also be helpful if you could find out why you have a cyst in the first place.
If you have trouble finding a crisis pregnancy agency, there are a couple of places you can look. One is by going to the Yellow Pages and looking under "abortion alternatives". The other is to go here: http://pregnancycenters.org/ .
Let me know how things go. Good luck, and take care!
