Post-Abortion Cramps: What to Expect & When to Worry

Question
QUESTION: I had an abortion about a week and a half ago. Experienced what everyone else was the bleeding, clotting and the non pregnancy symptoms. Now I'm a little frightened. I've been getting these severe cramps. At first they felt like IBS cramping before I have to go to the bathroom and now they come and I almost fall to my knees crying. Most of the time I get them in the middle of the night where they wake me up. I can't get a good night sleep. I always take an extra advil and go to bed with a heating pad but I'm always woken up by the cramping. My cramping usually happens morning and into the early evening and most evenings it doesn't go away. Sometimes I get the cramping feeling the upper part of my thigh and lower back also well when it's really bad. I'm doing everything that they have recommended to me. Is this normal and will it go away anytime soon? I will be going for my two week check up here in the next week or so but I feel like I'm always on pain medication. I'm tired of not sleeping.

ANSWER: Kelly,

You must get medical help as soon as possible. Something could be seriously wrong because I don't think this should go on as long as you are saying. Have you called the abortion center and asked for help? Can you go to your regular doctor? Please don't just suffer. You must try to get someone to help you. Keep trying and don't give up until you get relief. Let me know what happens. You can email me at CHERYL51@aol.com

Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl

QUESTION: Diane,

I saw the doctor today. Not so good news. Sure enough I have an infection. I have puss in my cervix. I believe he said that I have Endometriosis?? My tender tummy and back cramping and shooting pains in my thighs is all due to the infection and the sparatic cramping. I went in for an x-ray of my abdomin and going in for an ultrasound this coming week to make sure everything is ok. I'm on antibiotics already. A shot in the arm and other meds and pain killers for the pain.

I know I shouldn't have waited as long as I did but I thought it was the cramping the all the websites were talking about.

With what I have already gone through and now this, this has got to be the hardest thing I've gone through. I've also told the doctor I'm somewhat depressed and plan on getting help.

I did forget to ask if my cervix was closed or not. I would really like to have a nice hot bath just to relax but in the mean time stronger pain killers and a heat pad will do.
