Post-Abortion Bleeding After Sex: What to Expect

Hi Doctor,
 I finally got my period 7 weeks after my surgical abortion... I never went for a follow up or took a pregnancy test... Today, a week after my first period after the abortion stopped, I randomly started bleeding after (protected) sex. Is this normal ? Did this happen because spotting is normal or do you think it had something to do with the sex? Thanks for your help !

It is completely normal to have some bleeding after sex after an abortion.  Sex stimulates the uterus to contract, and can push out any residual blood that's in the uterus.  There is absolutely nothing to worry about.  Irregular spotting and bleeding can occur for months after an abortion.  Your period will return to normal in the next few months, and the more often you have sex, the bleeding after sex should stop.
