Post-Abortion Bleeding: Understanding Potential Complications

Sixteen days back,I had a medical abortion using Mifepristone 200mg followed by Misoprostol 800mcg intravaginally 48 hrs later. I was 45 days pregnant. I experienced severe abdominal cramping and aborted about 4 hours later. However, i have had continued bleeding for the past 16 days, requiring about 2-3 sanitary pads changes in a day. However since three days, the bleeding has increased(3-4 sanitary pads in a day).
  Is this normal or does it indicate any complication? Or is the abortion incomplete? What do i need to do next?

Answer
This can be normal.  The bleeding from the pill can be irregular.  If you are not passing clots or soaking more than 1 pad in an hour, that can be normal.  We usually have our patients have an ultrasound if there is any concern.  It sounds like this is normal.
