Post-Abortion Period Concerns: Unusual Bleeding & Pain - Medical Advice

Question
I had a surgical abortion at 5 weeks. This was a few months ago, and I'm currently on my second post-abortion period. The first came around 7 weeks after the abortion and was pretty light compared to my previous periods. The blood seemed redder than usual. Not even a month later, I have another period. This period is far more painful than any period I've ever had. It's also a lot heavier. I'm only on day 2 of this period, but I'm going through a tampon every 45 minutes to an hour. Earlier this morning, I was going through 2 or 3 an hour. And I mean, I'm literally soaking through them in 45 minutes to an hour. I'm wearing a tampon and a pad, and I'm coming close to soaking the pads I'm wearing while I'm wearing a tampon. I left work early today. My manager has me scared about cervical cancer. She said this is similar to what she went through before being diagnosed. I didn't tell her I've had an abortion, though. I never had an abortion follow up because I don't have insurance and couldn't make the follow up appointment given to me by the clinc because said clinic is 3 states away. My local planned parenthood refused to see me because I didn't have my abortion there. I'm worried I have a complication that's gotten progressively worse...or that I have cancer. Help!

Answer
Hi Dana,

I'm worried that you may have left over tissue inside your uterus which has caused infection, this can be very dangerous if left untreated so I strongly advise you visit a doctor as soon as possible. If that is not the case then you are most likely experiencing Menorrhagia which causes very heavy bleeding. Either way you need to see a doctor. Good luck!
