Misoprostol Failure After Medical Abortion Attempt: A Case Study

My girlfriend was 5 weeks pregnant, went to a clinic in China for medical abortion. The doctor strongly suggested surgical abortion but she insisted on medical abortion. The doctor gave 3 mifepristone tablets to take every 12 hours and 3days later she went to take Misoprostol. She took orally 3 X 200ug China made Misoprostol. After 3 hours, she started having diarhea 4 times, and some cramping on stomach, and there was some bleeding from vagina but not much blood. After 4 hours plus, the doctor said Misoprostol had failed "because after 4 hours it has no more medical effect", and insisted on doing surgical abortion at once. My friend agreed and it was done within 15minutes. My question is if Misoprostol does not work for my friend, how could she had some bleeding after 3hours? How common is it for Misoprostol to fail? In my friend's case, if she had waited another 3 hours, would Misoprostol have worked? Thanks.

I cannot tell you if misoprostol would have worked. I have no way of knowing. But the doctor might have been hasty in performing a surgical abortion.
