Massage Therapy After Triple Bypass: Safety & Considerations

Question
I would like some more information about massage for someone that has had a triple by pass surgey.  It has been about 9 months.  The person is very phyiscally active.  I know that heart conditions are on the contraindication list.  But what about conditions that have been treated.  Also is there a web site that address this issue.

Answer
Thanks for your inquiry, Victoria.

Challenging question!  First and foremost I highly recommend that the person rely on the treatment protocol of his/her attending cardiac physician before proceeding with massage or any other physical agenda.

I have taken the following quoted passage from this link:
http://www.sa.sc.edu/wellness/wwmassage.html

"A pilot study conducted at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles found that massage, as part of hospital-based surgery treatment, reduces pain and muscle spasms in patients who have undergone heart bypass surgery."

I hope that answers your question to some degree.
