Remedial Massage Question: Understanding Relaxation Massage Formulas

Question
Hello my name is Lee-Anne I have just started a course in remedial massage and I don't understand a question I have, I asked for help but apparently during a break is not a good time, I don't know when I'm supposed to ask for help otherwise, I feel bit brushed off and thought I'd ask here. I have searched online and read books but I think I'm misunderstanding the question. I have to describe the massage formula for charting relaxation massage? silly I know!, but I do not understand what the question is asking. can you please help? Is there a formula or do I simply just write what techniques are involved in a relaxation massage? I really just don't understand what the question is asking. Feeling silly, Lee-Anne and thank you for your time.

Answer
Lee-Anne,

One of the reasons your question may have not been answered is that we are not supposed to answer homework questions.

However, since you are not looking for an answer but what the question means I'll try to help.

When charting massages, you will list the techniques you used, what part of the body you worked on, and how the muscles responded to the massage. & of course you will mention what the client's objectives & your objectives of the massage are.

I think you're on the right track. There is no "formula" however "SOAP" notes are extremely common to use especially when starting out and learning to document. S = subjective. O= objective. A = Assessment. P = Plan. You may want to look at some sample SOAP note charts on the internet to get a feel for documenting massages if you are not yet comfortable.

I hope that helps!
