Persistent Leg Pain & Tendon Issues: A Runner's Concern
QuestionHi,
I am a 30 yr. old female runner and for a while have had trouble with the tendons that run along the side and back of my left leg behind my knee area. I think this was actually brought on from sitting with my left leg underneath me for hours at a time. I used to stand up and sometimes it would almost cripple me until I walked it off. Or when I would get up in the morning, it was hard to walk down the stairs. I then noticed it was worse after races.
So, I started foam rolling it and that seemed to help some. However, a couple of weeks ago my leg was outstretched and I felt a small knot or bump along or by the tendons in the back of my leg--almost where the crease is when you bend your leg. It does not seem to move around when pushed and does not hurt at all. It is just a hard bump. Is this something I should be concerned about ? Run to the doctors over ? Or should I just try to heat, massage, and give it some time ?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I am a hypochondriac when it comes to medical issues....I am trying not to be nervous or scared...
AnswerMaryanna,
I am not sure what it is that you are describing though a Baker's Cyst does come to mind, but I would think it would be painful and not solid feeling, so I don't know. I suppose it is possible you are feeling part of the tibia that has shifted posturally from the way you were sitting on it on those times. I think I would not panic, but just have it looked at in case it is anything that could cause pain or joint issues later on.
Best Wishes,
Mikey
