Massage Therapy & Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (Epstein-Barr Virus): A Comprehensive Overview
Questionhello i am attending the Utah College of Massage Therapy, on of my friends came to me and asked me if massage of any kind would help rid the Disease of or "heal" it in any way called the "Epsteen Barr Virus" also known as "Chronic Fatigue Syndrome". in the research that i have done i can not find any answer in witch would be the best modality for me to try on her. What would you recommend? and what sort of precautions should i take when treating?
AnswerHi Adam,
While I do not specialize in work with Epstein-Barr sufferers, I can tell you that no massage technique is going to cure a virus. However, you may be able to provide temporary relief of symptoms or simply improve a client's mood, which is often what a massage does anyway.
There should be no reason not to provide massage, but don't expect it to "heal" the virus. If you improve morale you can improve immune function, and that can be a nice side-long way to assist your client with CFS.
Best Wishes!
