How long should one wear acrylic tips before changing to a new set?

Answer
When maintenance is done correctly it isn't necessary to ever do a new set. The nails should be continously re-shortened back to original lenght, and when the tips grow out the enhancement is no longer an extention a natural tip overlay.
Besides these facts some persons like removing the old set and applying new one for a "fresh" look, there is no established minimum time. But bearing in mind that nails take aproximatly 6 months to completely grow out, and that each removal a re-appliance weakens your natural nail, i would say that one should not exceed 3 removals during this period
