How to Make Nail Polish Last: Tips for Long-Lasting Manicures

Question
I almost 50 and have always had a problem with my nail polish not sticking. I have had my nails done professionally as well as done them myself. I have roughened the surface of my nails, used a base coat, let the polish dry completely between coats, and many other things.
This weekend it dawned on me that there might be a product out there that makes the polish stick to problem nails. Do you know of such a product and/or have any bright ideas?
I do have oily skin and always rub my nails with alcohol (or similar) before applying polish.

Right now I feel lucky if my polish lasts a full day without peeling or chipping. Fake nails are not an option. Unfortunately I don't have the patience, time or money to keep them up.

Thank you so much for your help!!

Answer
Well it sounds that you are doing most everything, right but just to be sure i'll give you a quick guide to what you should do
1. You should start by using a AHA cuticle remover to remove cuticle traces on your nail plate. Apply, wait a white, then push back the cuticles and scrape the nail surface.
2. There is no need to roughen the nail surface, just cleanse it with a non-woven swab (kind like a gauze pad, you can get them at your chemist) soaked in non-acetone polish remover, really scrub the nail surface with it, until it kind of makes that squeeking sound. (the non-woven sawbs work better then cotton because they don't leave any fibers on the nail surface and are kind of rough, really helping the scrubing and leaving it very clean)
3. Apply your base coat. Allow to dry. Mix the polish by rolling the bottle between your hands (this avoids forming bubbles in the polish), then apply the 1st coat, allow to dry for a moment and repeat if necessary. Apply top coat.

Avoid applying thick layers and once your polish is completely dry you should use cuticle oil once or twice a day. A brand that i can recomend for all these products is Creative. They have a super suticle remover, a great base coat, lots of polishes in fabulous colours, but the greatest of them all is Solar oil, very rich, with a great scent and very mosturizing.
Hope this makes the diference and after you try it let me know if it worked for you.
