Tanning & Acrylic Nails: Preventing Discoloration - Expert Advice

Question
Hi Susana,

Quick question for you:

I have just started getting my nails(ACRYLIC) done a couple months ago and was thinking of going tanning...at a indoor tanning salon.

I have heard that going tanning with acrylic nails can discolor them to a slightly yellow color after a couple tanning sessions.

Is this true? And if so what can I do to prevent it from happening? I have heard of people taping them or trying to cover them up, Is there a product out there available especially for this?

Lastly; Can this occur aswell with Gel Nails?

Thanks in advance,

Ania

Answer
Well, i don't know if you are talking about spray tanning or sun beds. Either way i think you should speak with the salon as they should have the experience, and i'm not that familiar with acrylic. However spray tanning will most likely stain the nails, on the other hand uv light can make enhancements a little yellowish, but if your tech uses a good brand i don't think this will happen. Gel also belong to the acrylic family teh main diference is that it is already mixed and only cures with uv light, but basicly it behaves the same way as acrylic.
