Long-Lasting Manicure: Preventing Polish Chip on Natural Nails

Question
My natural nails are medium legnth. I really like them and every time I get a french manicure they look really nice, but then in a couple of days the polish starts coming off at the tips and they look terrible. How can I keep the polish to stay on like the acrylics do?

Answer
Hi Linda Ross!
Well acrylic and polish are totally different in chemical make up. That is why they do not wear the same. There are some tips I can suggest.
1-Be sure your doing your part and apply a good topcoat(clear polish)on your nails every other day or couple of days. This prolongs the life of your polish and prevents wear and tear. This is really important especially if you type a lot. Also wear gloves when using ammonia or bleach based cleaning products even the clorox wipes that we all love(:
2-Have your tech apply a a layer of glitter on your tip first and then apply the french white polish. The glitter will help grab and hold the white giving it a nice foundation.
3-Use a UV cure topcoat. This means that the after you apply the topcoat it is cured using a UV light and is durable. This will also prevent the white from yellowing.
4-If you are still chipping then I would recommend having an overlay of gel on your natural nails in a french finish. Overlay means coats of UV gel applied directly to your natural nail. Gel is nice because it is flexible, thin,no damage, super shiny, and is versitile. You can get the chip free gel applied in the french finish and say you want to polish for a night out? Go ahead and do so;No worries about polish remover anything is fine it does not affect the gel like it does the acrylic! The best part when you take the polish off it looks just as shiny as day one! Downside to gels is you need to get fills/rebalances every 2wks/4wks and the only way to get them off is to file them off unlike acrylic you can not soak them off.
Good Luck! Let me know what happens!
Polish away!
Amber(:
