QuestionI have been getting my nails done for about 8 years now.
Last week I had a bad experience while waiting for my guy to arrive, another tech started to work on my nails. He was drilling off my old acrylic and took off layers of my natural nail too. The left thumb was the burning. It throbs slightly days after this happened. Did he have to file that much off and will my nails be ok? Just a little worried here. Thank you so much!
AnswerDear Darlene,
Natural nails themselves should NEVER be filed with an electric file. ONLY the enhancement product should be filed by an electric file.
IF you ever experience discomfort during a service, speak to your technician and tell him/her.
Enhancements should NOT hurt!!! If it hurts to get them done, LEAVE.
YES on the rare occasion, maybe once a month? My hand has slipped and I've nicked a client or myself with my file.
BUT to overfile a natural nail to THAT extent is, in my opinion, gross negligence.
Your natural nail will grow out the damage.
However, please see this page on my site, to learn more about NSS (Non standard salons), MMA (a toxic acrylic) and the over-filing and damaging practices of certain technicians.

It will tell you how to look out for a quality technician, if you do not already have one.
