Why Does Nail Polish Peel? Ingredient Avoidance & Fixes

Question
My sister and I have nails in which nail polish does not adhere for very long.  I remember my sister saying that there is a specific ingredient in certain nail polishes that I should avoid.  Have you heard of this?  If yes, could you explain?  I hate spending a bunch of money on a manicure when it peels the same day or next day.

Answer
HI Linda~!

I personally have never been thru this. IF you DO not wear a TOP coat or Sealer over your polish yes it will not last long at all, ALL polishes are meant to have a sealer. For example if you sand down a table and apply a wood stain then to keep the table from drinks, food etc. absob\rbing into the wood you would more than likely apply a varnish to protect the finish and to make the table more attractive and shiny. The same applies with nail polishes.

Apply a base coat, so it will not stain your plate or your acrylic or gel enhance ment and then your polish 2 coat's and then your top coat, or Sealer, a sealer is much better but it is a bit more money and does last ALOT longer, I have clients whom have monthly manicures whom have very little chiping, if any at all when i apply the sealer, but there is an additional charge of $5.00 but it is well worth it, think of the time you are saving from not having to do touch ups or remove and repaint.

IF you like to paint your nails frequently, then only apply a base coat, 1 layer of a light polish and then a top coat and then the following week paint them a bit darker of the same color but a shade darker and so on following a bit darker and the 4th week the darkest, really it does not have to be the exact color tone but in the same family, for example light pink, then dark pink, then mauve then red or a really berry or wine color, then apply a thin layer of sealer at the end, bingo, another 4 weeks of not having to polish.

NTE, when you give yourself a manicure and your put your fingers in water as most manicure services do, the nail absorbs the water, normally the nail polish will be streaky and will not adhere to the plate, use a cuticle oil instead of soaking and make suer it is all removed before you apply the polish and also be sure your finger nails are dry as well.

I hope this info has helped you, do try this out and let me know with a follow up post how it worked out for you.
