Removing Acrylic Nails Safely: What You Need to Know

Question
I am not please with the salon that I have been going too. I want to know,  Do I have to soak the sculpture acrylic nails off before going to another nail tech? I am very new to this. I don't want to mess up my nail bed. I was told by a friend of mine that everyone is taught the same way and they use the same stuff. Could you please let me know if this is true?

Answer
No. Not everyone is taught the same and not everyone uses the same stuff, but it isn't a stretch of the imagination to reason that if one salon looks very much like another, that they may also follow a similar business plan. So if you were unhappy at one salon, I would advise against choosing a new salon that looks and feels the same.

You do not necessarily need to remove the product that is on your nails before going to another nail technician. Just be sure to mention the fact that you are currently wearing acrylics from another salon when you book your appointment with your new tech. Many nail techs do prefer to soak off any product from a different salon so they can start over from scratch without worrying about the old product breaking down and causing problems later. Anyone who prefers to do this should inform you of such when you book your appointment.

Remember, the safe and proper way to remove acrylic without damaging your nailbeds is to slowly soak it off with acetone! Do not pry or clip off product, and don't let someone else do it this way either! This is not an appropriate way to remove old product. It needs to be soaked off in acetone, and some products are solvent-resistant and will need to be carefully filed off of your nails.
