Choosing Gel or Silk Wrap Manicures for Healthy Long Nails

I have natural long nails and currently get a manicure every two weeks. I was considering getting gel or silk wrap over my own nails. My concern is the nails not breathing and causing them to become soft and brittle. Am I correct?

Hello Grisel,

First of all, I want to know what it is you are trying to achieve by considering the application of nail enhancements? Is it to keep the nail polish longer? mend broken nails? Gels and other nail enhancement is porous, therefore wouldn't soften the nails. However, if there is over-drilling involved, over time, will make the nails thinner and thinner.
