Acrylic Nail Allergy: Symptoms, Causes & What to Do

Question
QUESTION: Hi..from what I've read, it seems I must have developed an allergic reaction to my pink/white acrylic nails just in the last 3 weeks. My fingertips hurt, the skin around the edge of the nails and under the nail tips gets crusty hard, peels and is very itchy...not pretty.
Unfortunately, I didn't realize what was really going on and I've just had my nails re-filled and tonight I'm in pain with the reaction.  Now...what to do?   Would it be better to go back and have them removed or put up with the discomfort and wait for them to grow out over the next several weeks..?
Thanks for any advice you can give me.

ANSWER: Hi Sherri
I am so sorry that you are going through that! The "damage", so to speak, has been done. I would just let them grow out slowly, reducing the free edge over the course of several weeks. There is a great product that I recommend a lot called Nail Tek Xtra. I have been able to work several people out of artificial products with this.
Just to let you know, you may also be allergic to other products as well. 99% of the gel nail products are acrylate based. And resins and glue(i.e. for fiberglass or silk wraps) contain acrylates, too. In some of my earlier posts, I have discussed a product called T.E.N. Since I am beginning to see so many new clients with allegies, this has become a valuble service. Let me know if you need help in finding someone in your area, or you can Google the manufacturer(in TX).
I hope this helps Sherri :)

QUESTION: Thank you, Brooke, for your prompt response!  It's pretty much what I expected...(darn it!)   I would be very interested in learning more about the Nail Tek Xtra product as my own nails are weak and split easily.  I assume it is something I apply myself at home?
Also, about the product called T.E.N. - I will read up on that.  I guess I'm not sure what it is exactly.   I am in Overland Park, KS...a Kansas suburb of the Kansas City metro area - if you can recommend a salon in this area, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks again!

Answer

Nail Tek Xtra
Hi Sherrie
I called the owner of the company, and she said that the closest person that we have is in St Joseph, Missouri. Her name is Kellie Freund, and she is great. But I don't know what kind of drive that would be for you.
Yes, the Nail Tek is something that you could purchase from Ulta. You will just need to apply one coat per day. I will attach a photo to this so that you can see which one I am talking about.

Good luck, Sherri!
