Makeup and Skin Health: Benefits & Potential Risks

Question
A friend of mine does'nt think that make-up can make skin go bad but I believe that make-up can drain the skin and cause negative effects.I like make up but it can be good as well as bad. What do you think?.

Answer
Hello Esther~

You are both correct!

A good non-comedogenic (non-pore clogging) make-up is actually good for the skin in that it provides a protective barrier against environmental elements such as dust, smoke, pollution, etc., and adds another moisturizing element to the skin. When you wash your face at the end of the day you're washing down the drain all the pollutants that have landed on your skin during the day, but haven't been able to penetrate your skin as easily due the the protection offered by your foundation.  A foundation with an SPF also further helps protect your skin from sun damage. You should already have an SPF in the daytime moisturizer you're using, but and SPF in your foundation takes protection a step further.

Most high end and mass market foundations are non-comedogenic. There may be a few cheaper brands that aren't.  It will usually say on the label "non-comedogenic".  I'm a foundation fan!
