QuestionDear Elaine,
I am a hispanic girl from a Puerto rican background and upbringing and going to be 25 years old. I wanted to ask you about the best make up and lipgloss for my skin tone. My skin is like Halley Baries skin color, I have medium-Olive skin as well as some redness on my cheeks. My skin condition is also dry very dry I have ezcema and I think I might have rosacea but very mild type. It is so hard to find nice natural organic make up nowadays.
When I go to the malls I just dont want to get any make up because studies show how some chemicals can cause problems on your skin later on in life. I am a naturallist and I been that way since I could remember. I dont like to put on a lot of make up because I dont want people to say "OMG your wearing make up wow" It annoys me to the point that I want to take it off. How do I apply the right shades and just enough so I dont look like I am dramatic. I see some hollywood glam and its nice I want that but when I do it it doesnt look right. I also try to make that wing on the eyes with liquid liner but it always looks terrible. My cousins and friends do it so well I am jealous. Also what are the right shades for going on an interview.
AnswerHello Jacqueline :)
You must be beautiful if you look like Halle Berry! I admire her style!
I'd like to start by addressing your skin. As I can't see the condition of your skin, I'd like to ask some questions to understand your situation better.
- Do you drink up to 8 glasses of water daily? This will help hydrate your skin from within :)
- Do you moisturize your skin? If so, what are you presently using?
- Are you under some stress in your life? Do you notice your redness flare up when stressed?
- What is your diet consist of? Are you eating plenty of vegetables, fruits, fish?
- Are you taking a multi vitamin?
Regarding your makeup inquiry. Are you using liquid or mineral makeup? Mineral makeup is used to correct uneven skin tone, the coverage will camouflage without a heavy feeling. I agree that it is difficult to find 100% organic makeup because products commonly have preservatives so the product can last longer, keep the product fresh and they also help for blending consistency.
Bacteria thrives in moist situations so this is why mineral makeup is better than liquid. Also, liquid foundations have water in it so that is why preservatives are used.
Mineral makeup has no preservatives so you may want to look into that for a better makeup option because what you may be using now may be contributing to your skin issues.
Don't be jealous of your friends! Here is a trick for that 'wing' look. Use MAC's Fluidline eyeliner gel with the precise eyeliner brush. With a little practice - you can achieve that look :)
Makeup can be done beautifully with some patience. You tube videos makeup tutorials can help too.
When getting ready for an interview, I always say " Less is more"
Make sure you get enough sleep ( up to 8 hours ). Put on your business dress and apply minimal makeup. Eyeshadows should be light colored with a couple of applications of mascara.
Halle Berry's signature look is a nude lip. Start with a nude lip pencil. Halle uses Revlon's Creme Gloss in Wine anytime. It's a beautiful look.
Then if you want to glam it up - apply a shimmery lipgloss :)
I look forward to your reply and together we can work on a skin regime once I see your answers.
Take good care!
Warmly
Elaine
