QuestionQUESTION: I recently began working as a line cook and the first week I broke out really badly. I stopped riding my bike to work to lessen the sweat I was producing, and that helped calm it. It went from really bad, to slowly getting better, and Im scared to ride my bike because of how much I sweat (Its 15 miles). But now I have been getting spots on my face, which could be milia seeds. My question is can you recommend any daily or weekly cleansing routines that can help me with both my sweat and my oil problem.
Much appreciated,
John
ANSWER: Hello John,
What you describe is a bit tricky to address because there's no simple miracle solution. However, after giving it some thoughts, I think I came up with practical steps which would help you.
Before I start, I must emphasize that you shouldn't try to stop your skin from sweating, because it's a natural way for your body to get rid of toxins and internal toxic waste. If your body is sweating so much, it means that it needs to eliminate a lot of toxins, which in turn cause your skin to break out. So instead of giving you steps to stop your excessive sweating right away, I will suggest steps to help your body eliminate the toxins and naturally you should sweat less and the breakouts will stop.
Let's start with the internal part of the steps. You should try to drink as much water as you can, not soft drinks, but just water or good unsweetened green tea. This will help to flush the toxins through your kidneys, and prevent them from going to your skin. You should clean up your diet as much as possible of sweets and meats and dairy for some time, and concentrate on greens and fruits and nuts.
I also suggest you do a cure of a detox herbal compound like this one:

As far as being afraid of riding your bike, maybe you could try to come 5-10 min earlier to work so that your body and skin have time to cool down (you can help by taking a cold shower of available or just spray your face with cold water for a few minutes) before you start working (I know how strenuous being a line cook can be!).
Finally, as far as helping your skin directly, I would recommend to do green clay masks 2-3 times a week for 5-10 min, then apply a light but good natural moisturizer. You can find green clay here:

You should also clean your skin everyday with a mild cleanser. At any cost, avoid trying to strip your skin off its natural oil (sebum) as it will make things much worse. Here is a good option to clean your skin: Lavender floral water is antiseptic and cleansing:

QUESTION: I just wanted to add that I am currently, and have been for a couple months, been using Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Redness soothing Cream Cleanser. Would this be the cleanser part of my routine, taking over the lavender floral water? The instructions say to use twice a day so I do that once in the morning and once before bed. And the days that I know I will be sweating alot I have been using Deep Cleansing Cream plus Moisturizers from Noxzema for the past one month. I do that in the middle of the day before my ride or other workouts. Is it okay to use these 2, and use them as much as I do? I am worried that if i stop the neutrogena scrub and use lavender floral water instead that i will break out because i wont be using the salicylic acid, but have no idea if this is true.
Again, thank you for the all the advice, its very kind of you to donate your time and wisdom!

AnswerHello again John!
Here is what I suggest, after some reflexion: what about you keep doing what you're doing and you just incorporate what I've suggested in my previous answers? Then if you're not satisfied with the results in 2-3 weeks (you should see improvement), then it will mean that your current products aren't doing a good enough job and/or your diet needs more cleaning up in terms of processed foods, sweet stuffs, dairy and maybe wheat products.
don't forget to drink a lot and not to try to strip your skin off any natural sebum as it will make things much worse.
Let me know how it works,
