Best Foundations for Oily Skin: A Comprehensive Guide

If you love to indulge your skin in the art of cosmetic beauty, but have an oily skin that never lets you go to a party without having all the foundation caking your face, do not worry.

Women with oily skin can stop feeling bad about their skin just because the foundation they have been using doesn’t seem to stick to stay undetectable.

One of the first steps to make sure that the foundation you use stays in perfect hue and for longer is to buy the right foundation. So, here are some tips to choose the right foundation for oily skin.

Are you sure about your skin type?
When you are at the departmental store or drugstore looking for the right foundation for oily skin, make sure that you know what kind of skin type you have. Even if you are sure your face is oily, there is a chance that you could be mistaking an oily t-zone for an overall oily skin. Most people have an oily t-zone but that doesn’t mean that they have an overall oily skin. So, check with your dermatologist if you aren’t sure about your skin type.

Look for “oil-free”, “oil-mattifying” or “oil-control”
Now that you finally know that your skin type is oily, the first thing to look for when buying a foundation for oily skin is to look for words like “oil-free”, “oil-mattifying” or “oil-control” on the label of the container.

How much coverage do you prefer?
The next thing to do is to decide exactly how much you would like to cover with your foundation. This could also depend on the season. For instance, you may need a lighter coverage during summer and a heavier or creamier one during winter. If your skin is healthy i.e. if it doesn’t have breakouts, you could try a lighter coverage such as with a tinted moisturiser, but if you have an uneven skin tone i.e. one with blemishes, try a medium-coverage foundation. Remember than a lot of foundation on any skin type in summer can make it fall out like water.

Do you need an SPF in the foundation?
Most foundations come with an SPF value these days but not all of them are enough to adequately protect the skin from the harmful rays. You must always try and wear a sunscreen of SPF of at least 40 under the foundation to make sure that you stay protected.

Decide the colour of your skin
It is important to know whether you have a pale, dark or brown skin. Once you know what you skin’s tone is, you can take help from the bottle shade name as a guideline. If your skin is pale, you can skip the pink-toned foundations. Try looking for light beige, olive or tan complexions that have warm undertones so you buy what suits you best. Stick to shades that are warm, golden or medium.

Application tip
Apply your power foundation for oily skin by cleaning the fingers to provide the sheerest and natural effect. This is because the warmth of the hands can melt the base on to the skin. It is best to use fingers with liquid as well as cream foundation formulas. Use a sponge for better spread and perfect blend.
