Anti-Aging for Oily Skin: When to Start & Product Concerns

Question
Hi Caroline, I am 31 years old and would like to know when should I start using anti aging creams? Also, I tend to breakout and have oily face, are anti aging creams oily? can they cause me to break out if I were to use them?

Answer
Hello Elsa,

You're thinking of your skin: Bravo!
Before I give you recommendations, let me tell you few things...
Oily skin tend to age more slowly than dry or sensitive skin and the reason is that the oily film (natural sebum) is the natural anti-aging protection of the skin. So your skin has a big advantage compared to normal, dry or sensitive complexions.
There are so many anti-aging creams on the market that of course some are oily and some will cause you to break.
So you should look for a cream which is natural, doesn't contain parabens or PEG or dimethicone and is light enough.

But more than just the cream, you should:
1. never strip your skin with harsh cleansers
2. exfoliate once a week
3. do a facial mask once a week
4. lightly moisturize after cleansing
5. protect your skin from harsh sunlight, but enjoy moderate sunlight
6. avoid junk and processed foods
7. drink plenty of water and green tea
8. sleep well

Then, I guarantee: you'll look 30 even at 50! (unless you're under too much stress)

You can have a look at this cream which would be perfect for you and try to find something similar:

You can find home made facial masks recipes here:

And Verbena floral water is a very good natural gentle cleanser for oily skin:

These are just suggestions but I hope they give you an idea of what to look for...
Good luck in finding what fits your skin and don't let any glossy marketing stuff fool you into buying things which aren't good for your skin.

I hope you find this answer helpful.
Have a beautiful day,
Take good care
