Explore the Value and Age of Your 14ct Gold Fob Watch (Serial 60741 GW)

Question
I would like some information on a 14 ct gold fob watch which has cuivrf on back and serial number 60741 GW.  I would like to know approx. age and value of watch.

Answer
Hello Denise,
I did a search  utilising a number of resources on gold makers  marks. without more information and verification of the  lettering (cuivrf) .I cannot  tell you  much not knowing the approximate place of origin- the "GW" could stand for  gold washed as the serial  number ( if that and not an import  number or  importers ID number).I am betting that the  time period is mid twentieth century though if it ws stamped with 14Kt. gold and not 14/20 GF or something like that. It sounds more modern thatn old and  again, I know this is not much help  but without  seeing  pieces  i cannot  speculate  due to the thousands of possibilities worldwide that  could  be the origin of  such a piece. If the "cui, etc.) does not indicate any significant initials to you, then it is probably the maker- though I  found no record of a manufacturer from the 13-today using those letters as a  hallmark or maker's mark.
I  so apologize at  not being  more  help  but things  like the watch itself and the  type of movement are all clues to the origin. The  serial number again may not be a serial number at all but a registration #, design # or  some other  import/export marking that  is hard to narrow down based on the information I have to go on.
It is always  difficult to  tell someone that over the web, without actually holding and examining a piece I cannot offer more than  some possible things to  look for or  ways to  research the piece's history further on one's own. If it is  14 kt. gold though and  depending on the weight, that too is dependant on the condition and  function of the watch and knowing absolutely nothing more about it and presuming it is solid  14kt. gold. the value is perhaps in the range of 300-400 dollars, as today's market is near $983.00 for an ounce of  pure gold, and 14kt is approximately half  pure gold. Perhaps a local jeweler that specializes in watches could examine it for you and give a more definitive answer. Sight unseen it is  almost  impossible to venture a guess!
Best regards,Ari
