Rose Gold Jewelry: Quality & Potential Misrepresentation - A Buyer's Guide
QuestionHello :) Me & my fiance, we went for a weekend trip to Istanbul (Turkey) and taking the opportunity we bought all the necessary wedding accessories: absolutely stunning 18k white&rose gold diamond engagement ring & 14k yellow gold bands which have been plated to rose gold colour (so as to match perfectly the engagement ring). Now, it's been only 2 weeks since that trip, we haven't even started using these wedding bands yet and I've noticed today that this lovely rose colour has already gone off from one of the sides of both bands. Unfortunately we can't go back to Turkey & argue. Therefore my question is if there's any chance of exchanging yellow gold for rose gold bands without additional costs...? If so, then which jewellers might be interested ? What's the difference in pricing ? Please help :((( Thank You in advance for your time :))) Regards
AnswerHi Karolina,
You cant Gold plate gold to change its color as you know. It does not last. In Many countries you can exchange gold for currency without a great loss. In the United States this is not possible because the labor far surpasses the gold value. Your best bet is too ship the ring back to the original jeweler you bought it from and simply ask him to make you one in 14 or 18K rose gold. Tell him plating gold is not the proper solution to you problem and ask him to take the ring bank in exchange for the rose gold one.
Be sure to discuss this with the jeweler before you ship the old one back and be sure to insure the package and get a signature confirmation. You should do fine.
Good Luck.
Sincerely,
