Question- Hi,
the broche that is a flower made of carved rock crystal with a 14K gold mount. In the center there is one round of low laying tiny gold nuggets, 9 small cut round rubies from witch 3 are clustered together in the very center. The flower has a small gold stem. On the back of the stem it says 14K and on the right of the 14K there is a mark. This mark is like a Y with a straight leg (more like a K without the lower leg). There seems to be something like a horizontal dash at the right of the Y and at mid level. It does not seem like the dash touches the Y. The whole is encased in a little cirlce that seem to originate from the bottom end of the straight leg of the Y, goes all around from left to right in a circle that does not really close.
My question is: what does this mark mean? And from it and from the description of the broche, could you give me an idea of what am I looking at?
Thank you very much! I am much obliged!
Dana
AnswerG'day Dana and many thanks for your query.
The mysterious 'Y' Mark is probably just a Maker's model or design mark and has nothing to do with a Hallmark. It certainly is NOT a British Hallmark anyway.
You need to get your brooch appraised by a qualified gemologist valuer who may be able to tell you more because they can see it, feel it, measure and touch it.
There will be a charge for this - but it is the next logical step in your search for answers.
You might also like to add this query to my blog at http://how2valuejewelry.com/ as other may have had a similar problem. Can't hurt anyway and who knows what answers you may get.
Hope this helps...
